Shirley Chapman

My name is Shirley chapman and have been volunteering for the last 18 years in between working for the NHS and being involved on the committee for Dreamdrops children’s charity.

What was your inspiration for volunteering?

I wanted to give something back to the community helping wherever I can.

What does volunteering involve?

Volunteering involves being available to help anywhere that you think you could make a difference to those who need help.

What have you gained by volunteering?

I have made so many friends who need someone just to listen to them. The feeling you have and the smile you get back is so worthwhile to be a volunteer.

What has been your favourite moment volunteering?

My favourite moment of volunteering is when I see the smiles on those I give help to.

Why should other people volunteer?

I would recommend volunteering to anyone who is thinking about choosing to volunteer, you will get back as much as you give.

What three words describe volunteering?

Rewarding, Selfless and Impactful
