 Jonathan’s Coastal trek and fundraising

140km trek around Norfolk Coast 6th- 7th September for Huntingdon Childrens Charity – Dreamdrops

A few years ago Jonthan’s son caught a summer cold that quickly turned to sinusitis. He was taking various medication but nothing was working and took himself to bed one evening because his head hurt.

The following morning he woke with pain in his eye and his head and his eye had swollen out that he could barely see.

He was rushed to hospital and admitted for nearly two weeks. The infection had spread from his sinuses to his eye cavity, he was at risk of going blind, deaf, sepsis or meningitis.

Jonathan said: “Thankfully he made a full recovery but spending every day and night by his side I saw how the children on the ward were entertained by the toys, games and games consoles which allowed them to be children again for a few brief moments and not be dictated by their condition. These things brought the comfort, reassurance and familiarity that children recognise and some feeling of normality and safety in such a bad situation that they may find themselves in.

“Since this very terrifying event, I have made various efforts to fund raise for the charity that serves the children’s ward and also the local community.”

JONATHAN’S SNOWDON NIGHT TREK – 23rd – 24th JULY 2016

Jonathan Smith is climbing Mount Snowdon through day and night to raise money for toys and equipment for children on Holly Ward as a thankyou for the treatment given to his son. Despite being unable to train for the last 6 weeks to a back injury Jonathan is going ahead with the trek which will be a lot harder but, in his words, more rewarding.  Jonathan has raised at least £550 so far and has persuaded celebrities to donate including Liverpool Football Club and the band UB40.

Jonathan successfully completed his weekend of activity, climbed Snowdon and reached the summit at 4.43 a.m. It was a very hard weekend which was designed to train people who are climbing Kilamanjaro which most of the others on the group were.  It wasn’t just climbing Snowdon at night but doing it with only 5.5 hours sleep over two days.  We are extremely grateful to Jonathan for this fantastic effort and it looks like over £700 may be made to buy toys, games and Ipads for Holly Ward.
